PEAKPOWER SAN FRANCISCO

Peakpower San Francisco Inc. (PSFI) is the project company under holding company Peakpower Energy, Inc. (PEI).

On May 2013, PEI signed a Power Purchase Transfer Agreement with Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ASELCO) in which both parties agreed on the installation and operation by Peakpower of a complete and fully operational 5-megawatt bunker-fired power plant within ASELCO’s franchise area.

ASELCO is an A+ and Mega Large Electric Cooperative located in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur in the Caraga Region (Region 13), Philippines. At present, the electric cooperative supplies electricity to thirteen (13) municipalities and one (1) city, all in the province of Agusan del Sur. The franchise area of ASELCO covers the Municipalities of San Francisco, Prosperidad, Rosario Trento, Bunawan, Veruela, Sta. Josefa, Loreto, Sibagat, Esperanza, Talacogon, La Paz, San Luis and Bayugan City.

The PSFI power plant is located within the ASELCO Compound, Barangay San Isidro, Municipality of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. The PSFI power plant was initially equipped with the Wartsila 12V32 type engine (from Finland) with 5.2MW capacity, which can operate on heavy fuel oil, marine diesel oil and liquid biofuels with a broad range of fuel viscosities.

Wartsila has around 48.8GW of installed power in 4,599 power plants all over the world. In the Philippines, it has over 2,000 MW of installed capacity,

Diesel engines used in the power industry have low carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions due to their high thermal efficiency.

In November 2014, the Wartsila Performance Test was implemented and the blessing and inauguration of the power plant was held on December 8, 2014, with 1st Consumer Alliance for Rural Energy, Inc. (1CARE) Party List Representative Edgardo Masongsong as keynote speaker. Testing and commissioning, synchronization with ASELCO (Island Mode) and the Energy Regulatory Commission inspection were all completed in the first quarter of 2015 and the Certificate of Compliance was issued on March 23, 2015. Operation of the plant started last February 26, 2015 using the first engine unit.

A new engine was added as capacity expansion which was started in the 2nd quarter of 2016 and completed in June 2017. The new engine generator is of similar generation power increasing the plant’s total capacity to 10.4 MW. The Permit To Operate for the additional engine was secured on March 2018. As designed, the power plant will operate during peak hours when demand for electricity is highest.
