7 students join PCPC Bright Scholarship Program; 5 scholars graduated

Deserving and outstanding students from Concepcion, Iloilo continue to receive scholarship grants from Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) as seven students signed up as new scholars.

PCPC, owner of the 135-Megawatt CFBC Power Plant in Concepcion, launched the PCPC Bright Scholarship Program for qualified students from low-income families who are excelling in academics and leadership.

Five freshmen and two second year students received the grants for this school year covering 100% of their tuition and miscellaneous fees, with provision of monthly allowances.

The new scholars are enrolled in the Central Philippine University (CPU), Phinma University of Iloilo (Phinma UI), Western Visayas State University (WVSU), and Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College Estancia (NIPSC Estancia).

“It is no secret how education has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and we hope the (Bright) program alleviates the woes of students and help them continue with their educational objectives,” Mr. Nicandro Fucoy, PCPC President and CEO said.

Meanwhile, four Bright Scholars from Phinma-UI, and one scholar from Western Institute of Iloilo have graduated since the program started in 2016.

“My dream has always been to finish my studies and the scholarship has helped me not only financially but also in preparing me for the life after graduation,” Prince Zapanza, one of the Bright scholars said.

Zapanza graduated at Phinma UI with a degree in BS Information Technology and is currently working at one of the biggest business process outsourcing companies in Iloilo City.

Aside from the scholarship, the Bright Program also offers educational orientation to both the students and their parents, and mentoring program to the scholars at the PCPC power plant in Concepcion.
