Plant prepares Ops Team through simulation

Batangas — A 10-day hands-on training for engineers was administered to prepare them for the operations and maintenance of the Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) 135- Megawatt Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) Coal-Fired Power Plant in Concepcion, Iloilo.

PCPC’s training partner, Sem Calaca Power Corporation, a power plant based in Batangas prepared intensive activities to hone the future operators of the power plant with the knowledge and skills to maintain a critical facility.

The training was conducted for two batches of 10 engineers each on January 25 to February 5 for the first batch, and March 1 to 12 for the second batch.

Aside from classroom lectures and discussions, interactive simulation trainings were conducted to give them an immersive learning experience on the boiler and turbine start-up and shutdown.

Plant equipment tripping scenarios were also given to trainees in which they were tasked to provide the necessary mitigating measures to prevent unwanted shutdown.

In addition, the Operations Group engineers were taught the correct methods in executing proper emergency shutdown procedures for the safety of the plant and its equipment.
