Residents of Barangay Nipa is now enjoying smooth transportation with the recent improvement of their access road.
The road improvement project proposed by the Barangay Council of Nipa requires resources beyond the capacity of the latter, hence PCPC was tapped to be the source of the filling materials.
PCPC agreed to be the source of the Coal Combustible Residual (CCR) or coal ash generated by the power plant.
CCR is a by-product of the power plant in which it can be use to manufacture concrete, wallboard, bricks, including as filling materials for infrastructure projects.
Aside from the commitment to provide the materials, PCPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team extends to the barangay its support by giving technical assistance and documentation for the project.
“This road will give a safe and fast access to residents going to schools, market, offices, and most importantly, to emergency facilities,” Ms. Cleope Lena, PCPC External Affairs Specialist said. Ms. Lena is also the engineer assisting on the project.
Ms. Lena also cited a case when a fire hit the barangay last year, and the road made it difficult for the firetruck to enter the affected areas.
Treated by many residents as an early Christmas gift, the phase 1 of the 2km road improvement project which started on June was already finished, while the phase 2, which comprises another 1km, is expected to be completed by November this year.
