Peakpower Soccsargen Inc. (PSI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PEI.
PSI signed a Power Purchase and Transfer Agreement on March 20, 2013 with South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO II), for a 20.9-megawatt bunker-fired power plant project. PSI implemented this power generation project for SOCOTECO II’s peaking power capacity requirements.
This power plant is now supplying the power supply demands during peak hours of the franchise area of SOCOTECO II, which includes General Santos City, the municipalities of Glan, Malapatan, Alabel, Makungon, Kiamba, Maasim and Maitum in Sarangani and the municipalities of Polomolok and Tupi in South Cotabato.
The power plant is located within the SOCOTECO II Compound in Barangay Apopong, General Santos City.
The PSI power plant was initially equipped with 3 engines of the Wartsila 16V32 type (from Finland) as the prime mover and can both run on heavy fuel oil (as main fuel) and light fuel oil (as back up fuel).
On October 23, 2014, Warstila finished the testing and commissioning of the plant as well as the synchronization with SOCOTECO II on Island Mode.
The blessing and inauguration ceremony of this power generation facility was held on November 14, 2014 with then Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla as the keynote speaker.
The plant was granted its Certificate of Compliance by the Energy Regulatory Commission on December 1, 2014.
While it was granted its Certificate of Compliance (COC) by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on December 1, 2014. PSI’s first 20.9MW started commercial operations on January 27, 2015.
Following the agreement with SOCOTECO II, PSI was expanded in the 2nd quarter of 2016 for an additional 2 units of similar generation units to increase the total capacity to 34.8 MW. Commercial operation of these 2 new units were started in 2017.
